About “Ixtaccihuatl” for string quartet [based on an Aztec legend] Program: Ixtaccíhuatl falls in love with Popocatepetl, one of the best warriors of her father. Tezozomoc (the father, leader of the Aztecs) sends Popocatétpetl to war against his opponents and promises that victory would give him the hand of his daughter. He goes to war and she deeply misses him during this several period. Popocateptl endures a prolonged battle through to his own victory. Returning back, he sees that she is dead (she had died of grief) and carries the body away from the village and prepare himself to join her in eternal sleep. The Gods, after seeing this, decided to turn them into two mountains as a sign of eternal love.
